The Greenfield Permanent Firefighters, Local 2548, became affilated with the IAFF on Janurary 1st 1977 with twenty-one members. At the time the Local was comprised of only Privates as Deputy Chiefs served as Shift Commanders. Local 2548 now represents 24 privates, 4 shift captains, and 1 fire prevention captain.

Local 2548 partakes in many fundraisers annually. IAFF's MDA Boot Drive as well as Adopt-A-Family, Softball Sponsorship, and our own Scholarship to name only a few.

The Greenfield Fire Department was established in 1849. In 1898 the Permanent Force was established at our old location on Federal St. Our fire department covers an area of 21 square miles with a population of approximately 19,000.
